Information about Shrinath ji Pooja & Sewa

Lord Shreenathji is manifested as a 7 year old child and is a form of Lord Krishna who was one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The Idol of Lord Shreenath ji represents that form of Lord Krishna’s childhoodwhen he lifted the entire Gowardhan Hill on the small finger of his left hand to save the people of Vrindavan from the downpour of Rain sent by Indra who is the King of Gods. Hence, the Idol of Lord Shreenathji is having his left hand raised and the right hand resting at the waist and a large Diamond placed beneath his Lips. According to a legend, the Srinathji deity self-manifested from stone and emerged from the Govardhan Hills. Shreenathji is the presiding Deity in the Vaishnava sect also known as Pushti Marg or the Vallabh Sampradaay which was established by Vallabhacharya ji.

It is said that Shreenath ji himself instructed Shree Vallabhacharya ji in the Hindu Vikram Samvat year 1549 and directed him to go to Gowardhan Hill where he was to make arrangements for the worship of Shrinath ji. This tradition was further carried by Vitthalnathji who was the Son of Vallabhacharya ji and who later on institutionalized the worship of Shreenath ji at Nath Dwara.

The main Temple of Shreenath ji is situated at the town of Nathdwara located near Udaipur city of Rajasthan. As per the Religious Legends, the Temple at Nathdwara was built in the 17th centuary at an spot which was choosen by Lord Shreenathji himself. This temple is also popularly known as Shrinath ji ki Haweli (House of Shreenath ji). A Large number of Festivals are celebrated in Shreenath ji’s Temple at Nathdvara every week apart from the main festivals of Janmashtami, Holi, Diwali etc. wherein lakhs of Devotees visit the Holy town of Nathdwara for having Darshan of Lord Shrinathji also popularly known as Thakur ji and Gopala. As a routine, the Devotees can have Darshan of Lord Shreenath ji 8 times everyday when the inner sanctum is opened for the Devotees.
