He was born as a son to Sage Atri and his wife Sati Anusuya. He is believed to be the ultimate source of all the knowledge and wisdom of universe, and therefore also known as “Universal Guru”. Worshipping of Lord Dattatreya gives an ultimate wisdom and knowledge to a person, and he is also blessed with Success, Health, Wealth, Peace and Prosperity. The worshipper is also relieved of any bad effects of a Pitra Dosha, if the same is present in his horoscope.
Legend behind Lord Dattatreya
Lord Dattatreya was born to sage Atree, as a result of blessings given by Lord Brahma. As the legend goes, Sati Anusuya was suppose to be the most pious woman in her Pativrata Dharma. At one time, all the consorts of the Gods of Trinity (Goddess Maha Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Parvati) decided to test her Dharma, and to do this, they insisted their husbands to help them in doing so. Therefore, all the three Gods of Trinity went to Sati Anusuya’s place as sages, and requested her to offer them alms without wearing any clothes. To maintain her Dharma, as well as to keep herself pious, Sati Anusuya turned all the three Gods into infants, and offered them alms, as per their request. When the 3 Goddesses came to know of this incident, they requested Sati Anusuya to return their husbands and Sati Anusuya obliged them for the same. In lieu of which, Lord Brahma gave a boon to Sage Atri and Sati Anusuya that all the 3 Gods will take birth to them as a single child, with three heads, representing Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.

Swasti Vachan, Shanti Path, Sankalp, Ganesh Sthapan, Kalash Sthapan, Lord Dattatreya Sthapan, Lakshmi Sthapan, Brahma Sthapan, Agni Sthapan, Invocation of all Gods and Goddesses, Navgrah Sthapan, Navgrah Mantra Japa (1 mala for each planet), Punyaha Vachan Kalash, Dattatreya Mantra Japa, Sri Dattatreya Ashtottar Satnaamavali, Dattatreya Yantra Pujan, Lord Dattatreya Puja, Homam with Honey, Ghee, Sugar, Til, Ashtagandh, Sandalwood Powder, Navgrah Samidha and then Purnahuti, Aarti and Prasad to Brahmins.

• For 21000 Japas – 5 Priests for One Day (7-8 hours)
