Lord Sri Venkateswara, is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu who is believed to have come on Earth to save mankind from miseries and troubles of Kaliyuga. Hence, he is also known as Kaliyuga Prathyaksha Daivam apart from other names like Balaji, Govinda and Srinivasa. He is the presiding Deity of Venkateshwara Temple which is situated in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh at Tirupati town. The Temple is located between the 7 hills known as Tirumala and is the most visited and wealthiest temples of India.
As the Legend goes, Goddess Maha Lakshmi had some fight with Lord Vishnu due to which she left Vaikuntha and came to Earth and started living in disguise. After sometime, Lord Vishnu also arrived on Earth in search of Goddess Lakshmi and settled on the Tirumala hills. There he met daughter of the King of Tirumala known as Padmavati who was actually incarnation of Goddess Maha Lakshmi. Lord Vishnu wanted to marry Padmavati but for this, he needed a lot of money since she was daughter of a King.
Hence, Lord Vishnu took a Loan from Kuber who lended the money on the condition that Lord Vishnu will not leave the Earth till the debt is re-paid. It is due to this reason that lakhs of devotees who visit Tirupati temple donate handsomely so that Lord Vishnu can repay his debt to Kubera. It is widely accepted that in return, Lord Vishnu fulfils the desires of every devotee who pays his tribute to Lord Venkateshwara.
