Chamunda Devi is also known as Chamundi, Charchika and Chamundeshwari. As per ancient vedic texts, she is born from the eyebrows of Goddess Kaushiki, and is one of the seven mother goddesses, and is the leader of all of them. She is also one of the Chief Yoginis, a group of 64 Goddesses who assist Goddess Parvati in her war against demons. The name Chamunda has been attributed to the fact that she killed the demons Chanda and Munda  who were generals of demon kings Shumbha and Nishumbha. She is said to have assisted Goddess Durga in her fight with Shumbha and Nishumbha in the form of Goddess Kali and hence her name is also associated with Goddess Kali. She is considered as the Shakti of Goddess Devi herself, and hence she is widely worshipped for getting protection, victory over enemies and overall success in life.
