Shiv Maha Purana is one of the most sacred text of Hinduism and relates to a Hindu Tradition that worships Lord Shiva and is known as Shaivism. It is one of the Hinduism’s 18 great puranas and it is centered around Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati and it describes the story of Lord Shiva. Originally, Shiv Purana consisted of 12 Sanhitas (sections) and 1,00,000 Slokas (verses). However, they were reconstructed and summarized by Ved Vyas so that at present, there are 24,000 verses which are included in Six Sanhitas (sections). The name of the 6 sections in Shiv Purana are Janma Sanhita, Vidyeshvara Sanhita, Kailash Sanhita, Sanatkumar Sanhita, Vayaviya Sanhita and Dharma Sanhita. Each of these Sanhitas are divided into chapters (Adhyay) which contains a total of 24,000 slokas (versus).



Importance of Shiva Maha Puran Katha
Shiv purana is considered to be one of the most important puranas in which the auspicious aspects of Lord Shiva has been depicted along with ways and rituals to worship Lord Shiva to appease him. This is a recitation of 24000 verses of Shiv Maha Puran Katha in 9 days for getting the blessings of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is one of the Gods of Hindu Trinity apart from Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. He is also known as Mahadev means the Supreme Lord. It is believed that Lord Shiva can be pleased most easily if a person offers his prayers with full faith and dedication. Hence, recitation of Shiv Maha Purana blesses the worshipper by providing him an all round protection from all kinds of negative energies, removing the negative effects of bad karmas and instilling a feeling of positive energy, courage, intelligence, mental peace, health, wealth and happiness. It is
believed that if a person worships Lord Shiva as prescribed in the Shiv Maha Purana or even if he recites or gets a recitation of Shiv Maha Purana done on his behalf, then he is blessed by Lord Shiva thereby attaining Moksha after leading a most satisfactory life in this world.

Procedure of Shiva Maha Purana Katha & Pooja
Swasti Vachan, Shanti Path, Sankalp, Ganesh Sthapna, Kalash Sthapan, Lord Shiva Sthapan, Navgrah Sthapan, Brahma Sthapan, Agni Sthapan, Invocation of all Gods and Goddesses, Navgrah Mantra Japa (1 mala for each planet), Shiv Maha Purana Recitation followed by Lord Shiva Puja & Homam on the final day with Honey, Ghee, Sugar, Til, Ashtagandh, Sandalwood powder, Navgrah Samidha and then Purnahuti, Aarti, Prasad to Brahmins
