What is Monthly Panchang?

A monthly Panchang calendar lines up each civil day in a grid with the tithi and nakshatra active at sunrise for your chosen city, plus sunrise time when ephemeris checks mark it trusted. Unlike a wall calendar that only shows English dates, this view helps families spot Ekadashi clusters, Sankranti proximity, or nakshatra repeating across a business quarter. Diaspora users often keep one month view for parents’ town and another for residence to compare fasting dates. The grid respects the place picker shared across Panchang tools, so a student in Toronto and parents in Pune can screenshot the same month with different coordinates.

How it is calculated

When you open a month, the client requests one summary object per day for the month length starting at the first day of the displayed month. Each summary reuses the daily engine at local sunrise for tithi and nakshatra labels, formatted as readable strings. Sunrise and sunset strings come from the same Swiss ephemeris pipeline as the main Panchang page. Month navigation shifts the anchor date to the first day of the adjacent Gregorian month while keeping latitude and longitude fixed. Loading states appear while summaries stream in for long months.

How to read your result

  • Pick city before interpreting tithi—diaspora dates diverge from India Standard Time alone.
  • Scan the grid for repeated tithi names when planning vrata reminders.
  • Use sunrise column for morning puja timing, not midnight calendar flips.
  • Jump months with arrows; the date field still accepts manual ISO entry.
  • Tap main Panchang for Rahu Kaal or muhurta on a specific day.
  • Export screenshots when elders want a shared reference for the month.

Why it matters — and when to consult

Month view shows patterns; it does not replace pandit guidance for festival exceptions or adhika maas rules in your sampradaya. Dr. Gajanan Sangle helps when two temples announce different Ekadashi dates, when wedding planners need a shortlist of civil days before lagna matching, or when companies publish multicultural holiday calendars. He explains amanta versus purnimanta labeling when month names in the grid differ from TV banners.

Frequently asked questions

Why does tithi differ between cells in the same English week?
Tithi changes at lunar phase boundaries, not at Sunday midnight.
Does the grid show Rahu Kaal?
Use the daily Panchang or Rahu Kaal page for inauspicious slices.
Can I view months in the past?
Yes. Navigate backward; ephemeris supports historical dates with timezone care.
Which month system is used for labels?
Tithi strings follow sunrise calculation; maas names appear on the daily page when trusted.
Why is sunrise missing on some days?
Sunrise displays only when trustedFields from the API includes sunrise for that build.
